A Teen Idol Singing Contest was held at Swanton Public Library which is a competition of vocal abilities, showmanship and song delivery between singers. Emcee: Dave Chonko started off the night introducing the Judges of the competition: Frank Zbierajewski, Katie Zbierajewski, Jackie Soules and Sheila Gruenhagen. There were a total of 15 singing participants and then the competition narrowed it down to five finalists for Teen Idol 2005. These finalists consisted of: Jessica Jacobs, 7th Grader, Delta Middle School Michelle Spurgeon, 12th Grader, Swanton High School Natasha Gordon, 7th Grader, Swanton Middle School Tiffany Dowling, 7th Grader, Evergreen Middle School Kelli Ketring, 7th Grader, Swanton Middle School After two different performances, Tiffany Dowling won the competition! Singing a performance of "Tomorrow" and her final song performance of "Beauty and the Beast." Tiffany received - First Place prizes of Gram my Nominee 2005 CD, Cash/Money, Teen Idol Sign, First Place 2005 Teen Idol Ribbon and Local Coupons. Evergreen Elementary Receives Free Sports Equipment The Elementary School cafeteria staff participated in Con Agra's Spring into Activity program. By utilizing Con Agra products (already planned on the cafeteria menu), Evergreen Elementary was able to receive 3 free balls as well as a frisbee. These items were donated to the Physical Education Department. A great big THANKS for the creative thinking from the kitchen staff.

New Principal at Evergreen Elementary By: Ken Jones, Superintendent At a Special Meeting on May 11, 2005, the Evergreen Local Board of Education offered a two year contract to Mr. Scott Lockwood as the new principal at Evergreen Elementary School. Mr. Lockwood received both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Bowling Green State University. Mr. Lockwood began his career as a Child Care Worker in Ashtabula, Ohio. He has also worked as a Juvenile Correction Officer in Portage County, A Firefighter in Perrysburg and a Police Officer in Andover, Ohio. Mr. Lockwood began his teaching career with the Wood County Educational Service Center in 1990. From 1991 to 1995, he taught sixth grade at Frank Elementary in the Perrysburg School District. From 1991 to 2001, Mr. Lockwood was employed by the Jefferson Area schools as advanced and remedial math instructor in grades seven and eight. In August of 2001, Mr. Lockwood took an elementary teaching position at Haskins Elementary in Otsego Local Schools. He will complete the 2004-2005 school year at Haskins Elementary. Mr. Scott Lockwood was selected from an applicant pool of nearly forty candidates. He was the unanimous choice of the Elementary Principal Screening Committee and the Evergreen District Superintendent. Mr. Lockwood is excited about beginning his new responsibilities as Evergreen Elementary School Principal. Although his duties do not officially begin until August 1, 2005, Mr. Lockwood will be spending time in the building in June and July. When you see Mr. Lockwood, please give him a hardy Evergreen welcome! Principal By: Ken Jones, Superintendent Mrs. Sherry Seiler will finish her 33 year educational career as she will retire on July 1, 2005 as principal of Evergreen Elementary School. Mrs. Seiler graduated from the University of Toledo in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education. Sherry began her career as a substitute teacher in the Toledo Public School. In 1976, Mrs. Seiler moved to Montpelier, Ohio where she taught 1st, 2nd and 4th grades from 1976 through 1984. In 1984, Mrs. Seiler became the Curriculum Director/Media Specialist for the Montpelier Exempted Village Schools, a position she held until 1991. After receiving her Master's Degree in Educational Administration in 1985 from the University of Toledo, Mrs. Seiler became the Principal of the Lyons Elementary School in January of 1991. She held this position for 13 years then became the Principal of both Lyons and Fulton Elementary in August of 2004. On January 3rd of 2005, Mrs. Seiler became the first principal of the new Evergreen Elementary School. Over her 33 year career in public education, Mrs. Seiler has been a positive influence on the many students, parents, teachers and administrators with whom she has worked. Her contributions to the educational process are many. She will certainly be missed by those of us who had the good fortune to work with her. I am sure you join me in wishing Mrs. Seiler the very best in her retirement years.
